Reaction Paper on "Thank You Ma'am"

Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones should be a role model for every women, so that they can realize that they can take care of themselves from any form of danger and to forget that women are weak and they can’t stand on themselves and stay at home doing household chores.
The story is very interesting and fascinating to read that has lots of good characteristics and values that we can learn that is the reason why I think it is a good choice for me to read the story. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones treated the boy like her own son after he attempted to steal her purse. This kind of things happens in real life, we get mad, we get angry, if we caught someone stealing something from us, or even our own wallet, we punish these person/persons by sending them to jail. Instead of punishing the boy, Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones did not punish the boy, she treated the boy like her master, or her own child. If many people will be like Mrs. Jones, a lot of people will be not be afraid to steal anymore because they know that they will not be punished or sent to jail and instead they are treated like royalty. Roger was the name of the boy who stole her purse. She didn’t release him; instead she brought her into her house and clean him up. These kinds of actions are somewhat impossible to in real life. Of all people, who would be dumb enough to bring a thief into their own house? Another dissatisfaction is how Mrs. Jones taught Roger in learning his lesson for stealing purse. The unusual procedures that she made are when she let the door open and leaving the purse in the day-bed. Not the appropriate approach in teaching someone a lesson that tried to steal her purse. There is a big chance that Roger would get the purse and leave the house immediately. This is one of the big mistakes that Mrs. Jones have done. Roger would just easily slip away with the loot. But in great surprise, Roger did not leave the house or even touched Mrs. Jones purse. This greatly implies you can never judge a person base on their looks and that everyone deserves a second chance it’s just a matter of trust for one another. There are also good things that occur in the story. Mrs. Jones took care of the boy for she wanted to treat him as her own son. It’s not stated that she has a child. In fact, she was only the one living in her apartment. Perhaps that’s the reason why she let Roger inside her house because she wanted to be like a mother who is willing to give everything and teaching good moral conduct to her son. Maybe this is what she wants and we should accept people for who they are and what they want to be. I was really surprised when Roger did not leave the house when he was given the chance to run away with Mrs. Jones’ purse.
The lesson is that if you want something, stealing is not the solution for that problem, there are people out there to help you. People can be changed by love and trust.
